Edmund Chapman was the son of Thomas and Maria Chapman of 103 Bloomfield Street, Halesowen. He volunteered for service and enlisted in the Rifle Brigade. He was posted to the 9th Battalion which was sent to France in May 1915 for the second battle of Ypres. They were heavily involved in the struggle for Bellewaerde Ridge in June and then remained in the front line for some time. Corporal Edmund Chapman was killed in action on the 25th September 1915. He was 22 years of age and is commemorated on the Menin Gate and Halesowen Memorials.
