Charles Henry Brittain was the son of Albert and Harriet Brittain of 138 Spring Hill, Hasbury, and attended Hasbury School. He enlisted in the Worcesters and was posted to the 4th Battalion. In late 1917 they were facing the powerful German defences in Artois and were called to the front line for the battle of Cambrai. This battle was remarkable for the employment of over 300 tanks and for the breaches they made in enemy lines on the opening day, the 20th November. Fresh German forces, however, were brought up for a massive counter-attack and on the 30th the Worcesters suffered seriously. Among the wounded was Private Charles Henry Brittain. He was taken to a field hospital where he died on the 2nd December. He was 23 years of age and is buried at Tincourt Cemetery (III F 14) and commemorated on the Halesowen and Hasbury school Memorials.

Albert Brittain about 1867 is on BCC, but his father is Henry Brittain not Andrew as on marriage.
