This Samuel Clift

Family were all registered as surname Head and he married as Head not Clift
and half of Census records he is Head and Half Clift and 1911 as Head Clift .
Some of children dropped Head and took up Clift again.
His Parents were William Clift and Abigail Head so that may be where Head came from
