"Complete"Crimes,Chrimes or Grimes

Post by mumbles »

This William Chrimes
https://www.tribalpages.com/tribe/brows ... =991236328 added by myself

is I believe this William Grimes
https://www.tribalpages.com/tribe/brows ... onnections
Census records for father Samuel have been noted as Grimes and in 1841 are Aimes and 1851 Crienes. but neither are clear and Grimes has bee transcribed incorrectly.
Subsequent family members down ages are noted as Crimes and Chrimes on GrO and marriage records. but never Grimes

Needs decision and sorting possibly changed from Crimes to Chrimes in later records as Crimes looked dodgy

Carried out more research and it is definitely not Grimes and it would appear that descendants used Crimes as surname until 1861/1871 and then used Chrimes afterwards,

I think you are right mumbles.
Perhaps change to Crimes for early ones and once family start using Chrimes add that as surname and make a note. :)
