exploring back down limbs below 1891

Post by geoff3 »

I'm having difficulties finding descendants later than 1891, (ie between 1891 and today) any suggestions from the experienced explorers?

Alec,
You gave me the answer in another of my postings the secret is in the search request ie
look for children with the surname = family name,
given name left blank,
and the spouses maiden name specified.
This gives a theoretic list of the children to be sifted through according to probable dates and locations.

Thats true Alec, I was lucky exploring from 1910 onwards.
Clicking on the page number in freebmd gives all the people registered at that date and has been useful giving me the probable spouse.

Hi Geoff

You have been lucky! In my case, most B's M's or D's after about 1915 have been fruitless, though strangely, my own marriage is there and I'm not that old!!!. They must transcribe them on a quality basis, Ha Ha.

"findmypast" is another source, they are supposed to be up to date. The problem is, they list alphabetically in quarters, you cannot search and get the specific name or year you want, so you may have to trawl 40 or so quarters. Each one costs you money and you still may not find what you want. You may feel it's worth it.

I'll be silly now, and mention the 1901 Census. I'm sure you've covered that where applicable.

Good luck

Howard
