I cant place Ellen Lawless within my tree. No birth records. Thomas and Ellen had a son George in 1910. My surviving aunt insists that Georges mother was called Nelly ( fits in with Ellen) . She says Nelly was her dads sister. But-her dad was William and his dad was Peter ( Lawless) But the Ellen in the above notice had a dad called Thomas. Its a puzzle I cant fathom. It must be the correct couple because I definately have the witness Janet Gertrude Lawless in my tree ( daughter of Peter) The only record I can find for George Warburton is the GRO record which states his mothers maiden name was Lawless.

It is impossible to be sure, but perhaps Ellen was Mary Ellen (right age, father Peter was a sheet-iron corrugator in 1891 and deceased by 1901). It would not be the first time that the groom's father's first name was also entered as the bride's father's name.

Re: Im struggling with this one
Thank you Gardener. I think for the sake of my sanity, Im going to go with your suggestion that Ellens father was documented wrongly in the 1909 notice. It happened with another relative where her brother was listed as her father.. It took me ages to solve that one. So, thanks for your input and a Happy New Year.

Postcript
Ok, Ive done a bit of delving. The Nellie that my Aunt must be getting confused with is actually Thomas and Ellens daughter, born in 1915. She was definately named Nellie, not Ellen. She was actually my Aunts ( & my Dads) cousin. Ill excuse my Aunt on account that shes 90 and I had just shared a bottle of prosecco with her.
