Have found ref for the marriage of the above couple Dec qtr 1850 at Dudley Dud 18 449. Don't know if a Church or Reg office. Rumoured one was Protestant and other Catholic. Any info appreciated.

Beat me to it Jimmy. So it wasn't Sarah Hart. According to 1861 census James and Sarah and son John are at Blackbrook rd but in 1871 the only John I can find has father Timothy at Gads Lane. Parents born Ireland and Johns age correct so did he change his name I wonder. John born Dudley 1853 but did parents marry Ireland?

Looks like a mistake on the name, but was it Timothy or James.?

This has been a nightmare that's why I've left it so long before taking it up again. Johns marriage to Hagar Jones Danks in May 1875 has his age as 21 but doesn't give a middle name. He was living at Darby End, a moulder. His father was James a furnace man.
Those are the census results I have.
Can only find 2 Johns born 1851-55 at Dudley, one is John B and other b Stourbridge1854.
Where to now? Cant remember if I sent for a birth cert all those years ago stating the name of a father. Think request was returned as no match. Shall have to dig into my files to remind myself.

Another alternative is to try to find young John in 1861 and 71 with father James.
Johns first child was Sarah, after mother?

The plot thickens. Looking at my family tree notes I have " Norah Dean always believed her gt gd parents were called Harry and Florence (Hardy)" but I can not find these names anywhere. Strange Harry was the name of Johns first son. But why James on mar. cert? Was he trying to escape his Irish heritage and hence the change in name to Timothy at some time?

Norah was Harry Deans daughter, my dads cousin but I only discovered her existence through an article in the Bugle about the watercress beds at Darby End run by her gt gd dad Solomon Danks. I visited a few times before she died in 2007. Harry was the son of John and Hagar Danks.
