Isaac Thompson, Sedgley. BC Wench Adding...
I have been reading a book called "A Grim Almanac of The Black Country" on Kindle.
1n 1862 an Isaac Thompson of sedgey thrust a sharp pointed spike into the head of his 8 year old daughter causing a fatal wound, at the time he was awaiting trial for roasting another of his children alive.
Onle 14 months earlier he was charged with unlawfully wounding a third child. It mentions a Hannah a Martha and a Rachel.

He blamed his wife foe being a drunkard, he was fined 5 shilling for smacking 13 year old Rachel in the mouth , and 2 weeks hard labour for manslaughter to the one that was badly burned.

It is terrible, poor children
To be honest, it is history and that is where it lays... We have no idea what went on.
Our personal feelings on it should not be brought into account. Just my thoughts...

Re: Isaac Thompson, Sedgley.
I've been reading the newspaper reports on FMP on the cases in question and you know what, I feel a lot of empathy towards Isaac.
The eldest daughter, Rachel aged 13yrs had to look after her siblings in the absence of her mother, Sarah. It appears that Sarah frequented the house on a "hop and a catch" and that Isaac was trying to keep the family together.
Birmingham Gazette 18 March 1863
....Rachel wept as she gave evidence and said that her father was always kind and good, and that if their mother had been the same they should all have been happy and comfortable. Mr Hill for the defence alluded to the fact that the prisoner was, unfortunately, allied to a wife who neglected her duties and left them entirely to him. He had been kindly and indulgent to his children, and had tried, as far as he could, to supply the mother's place and it was not to be supposed that he could ever have contemplated injuring his child.....
If Isaac was so violent to his children, why didn't their mother take care of them, what was she doing!
If you search on the web "isaac thompson of sedgley" using the inverted commas, there's a book "A Horrid History of Christmas" which gives the details.
This looks like Sarah's father on BCC
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... ver=386168
which I've followed up and will put info on BCC if you agree.

Re: Isaac Thompson, Sedgley.
I have been reading them too. Seems a sad story all round
Seems alcohol related problems as he had been with his wife drinking that day and given her money and beef to cook for the family. "Sally" Sarah was not there on his return causing a violent reaction from him, probably with drink, nor had she been there 3 nights previous...
Not an excuse for him.
I just dont think it is our call not to allow on BCC even though horrific. It was another life, history, that is what we document...
See what NL says but I think it should go on. My opinion.
