Hi,

Now that my earlier query about Ellen Knight seems to have been resolved, and thank you very much to all that helped as it's genuinely solved a family mystery, I was hoping someone could help with Joseph Bagley. He's on the BCC site and I have tracked him through the various census records but I can't find a death record? He seems to have died between the 1901 and 1911 census. I was also hoping someone could give me some advice on how I go beyond Joseph Bagley as I've used the earliest census I can find to go back to Joseph, but how would I find his father and where he came from? Do I need to look at parish records? I'm not sure of the next step in tracing my family back past the early 1800's.

I'm not sure this is the same Joseph as mine was 77 in the 1901 census and still alive, he was born 1823 or 1824 according to the info I have from various sites.

Why does the age at death differ from 74 to 78 in the info you have?? The 78 year old could well be him!

Could anyone recommend the best way to find out who Joseph's father was? The census only seems to go back to 1841 and he seems to have left home by then. I've tried searching for his marriage to Elizabeth Batty but can't find any details? I'm struggling to go back further than Joseph, how do you go further back than the last census?

You would either need this looking up or order the marriage cert. That should give fathers name.
