ARC TBC Hi and the Fearnall Family from Kidderminster

Post by Fearnall »

Hello everybody,

Thank you for letting me join the Geneology Forum. I was recommended to join after I posted on Kidderminster past a few months ago.
I am researching the FEARNALL family tree and have hit upon a brick wall! My Grandfather was Benjamin Fearnall born in Bridgnorth to John Fearnall and Mary Pearce in 1885. John Fearnall was one of 6 children that I know about! He was born 1835/37. He married Mary Ann Pearce in Kidderminster in 1877 and died 17/06/1888 in Bridgnorth.
John was one of 6 children; Elizabeth, John , William, Ann, Robert and Maria Fearnall all born to Joseph Fearnall and Mary King? Joseph was a carpet weaver. Joseph may have been born around 1796? He was recorded as deceased on the marriage certificate of John and Mary in 1877. This is where my mystery starts.
I have a deat h certificate for a Joseph Fearnall (carpet weaver) died in 1857 aged 67 years, however the informant is Phoebe Fearnall from York St, Kidderminster. I think she was married to another Joseph Fearnall? So did Joseph and Mary Fearnall have more children than I originally thought? There just isn't something adding up here and I'm stuck. If anyone can help me I would be very grateful, I don't seem to be able to see the wood for the trees, if you know what I mean. Many thanks.

poss marriage of a Joseph who I think marries a Phoebe Ayers in 1856 Kidderminster

Looks to me like 2 Marys that marry 2 Josephs

Found in 1871 the one with the Joseph as son who marries I think a Phebe Ayers

1871 York ???? Kidderminster
Joseph Fearnall head mar 42 carpet weaver b Kidderminster
Phebe? Fearnall wife 43?
Eliza dau 18?
Mary Mother widow 80 b Walsall

what links the 1851 and 1871 is the mother Mary born Walsall

1851 Broad St Kidderminster
Joseph Fearnall head mar 59 Carpet Weaver b Kidderminster
Mary Fearnall wife 59 b Walsall Staffs.
Joseph Fearnall unm son 22 b Kidderminster
Louisa Cartwright dau 27 mar bobbin minder?
Emma Fearnall dau 24
Joseph Fearnall 14 g.son
Eliza Fearnall 12 G.dau
Joseph Cartwright Gson 8? b stourbridge
Noah Cartwright gson 1 b Brockmoor
all others b Kidderminster

1871

1871 15 Bernards Hill Bridgnorth
Mary Fernall head widow 70 b Leicester
Maria Fernall dau unm 23 spinner at worsted mill b Bridgnorth
Ann Bufton dau 29 married b Kidderminster
George Bufton g.son 10 mths b Madeley
Benjamin Fallows g.son 16 b Bridgnorth

next door to Benjamin Pearce and Caroline Pearce
who are at no 14
and Mary Ann Pearce as yet unmarried in 1871 is there too

so looks like a Joseph and Mary marry that mary born walsall
and the other Joseph and Mary that mary born Leicester

I think that son of Joseph and Mary born walsall marries a phebe...................and that is that Joseph that dies in 1857.........not ours.

Hi everyone,

A massive thank you for all the help received so far. I am relatively new to all of this and to be honest, have got myself in a right mess with all the Joseph's and Mary's!

I have got the birth certificate of Benjamin Fearnall born on the 12th Jan 1885 at Bernard's Hill, Bridgnorth. Fathers name John Fearnall and Mothers name Mary Fearnall, formerly Pearce. I have his death cert, died 27th May, 1953.

I also have the birth cert of Benjamin's Brother Henry who was born 17th April 1877 at Primrose Hill, Kidderminster. John Fearnall (spelt Farnell) father and Mary Farnell (formerly Pearce) mother.

I also have the marriage certificate of John Fearnall (spelt Farnell again!) and Mary Pearce. Married on the 26th Feb 1877, John aged 40 years and Mary aged 26 years. John living at Wood st, Kidderminster and Mary living Primrose Hill, Kidderminster. Johns father Joseph Farnell, carpet weaver (deceased).

I have the death cert for John Farnall, died 17th June 1888, Bernard's Hill, Bridgnorth. Aged 53 years

I have a birth certificate of Ann Farnall (diff spelling) born 2nd Feb 1839 (Sister to John). Father Joseph Farnall and mother Mary Fearnall formerly King.

I also sent off for the Death cert of Joseph Fearnall deceased 31st Jan 1857 aged 67 years, a carpet weaver. The informant of death was Phoebe Fearnall, present at death. Then on looking up Phoebe Fearnall found the other Joseph and things didn't match up.

I also have transcripts of the marriage Certificates for;
Elizabeth Fearnall marriage 1853, to Richard Fellowes, fathers name Joseph Fearnall (carpet weaver)
William Fearnall marriage 1859 to Ann Handley, fathers name Joseph Fearnall (carpet weaver)
Robert Fearnall marriage 1867 to Martha Parsons, fathers name Joseph Fearnall(carpet weaver)
Ann Fearnall marriage 1868 to Thomas Bufton, fathers name Joseph Fearnall (carpet weaver)
Maria Fearnall marriage 1873 to Richard Lee, fathers name Joseph Fearnall (carpet weaver)

Therefore according to the marriage records of John and his siblings, our Joseph Fearnall must have died between 1873 and 1877, as he was deceased at Johns Marriage.

Thank you so much once again for any help, I sometimes think it's going to send me quite mad! If I've posted this into the wrong place again, many apologies, I'm new to forums and navigating myself around too
