ARC TBC Parish records- where to start??

Post by Gamegirlxx »

Hi everyone,

I have had a break from my family tree for a while and really feel I can do no more unless I visit the correct councils for parish records. I have done all my research online and am fairly confident with what I have done but as things go further back I'm finding it hard to find evidence to support my findings. My family originally came from Camberwell, Surrey but seemed to come from Kent originally. Crayford in particular. 1846 seems to be the oldest date that I can obtain certificates so I guess I do need to check parish records. I have found some baptism/ marriage transcriptions but I want more information- particularly births. Now Kent is a big place and I really don't know where to start! Any help on how to do this would be helpful!

Thanks you :-)

You will be able to get certificates back to 1837 but prior to that it is parish records for baptisms, marriages and deaths. Birth dates were sometimes included on the baptismal record but not always.

As to where -- there were less churches and parishes in those days but it will be a case of searching through if you do not have a possible starting area. The record offices each have several parishes so you don't have to visit them all individually.

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?
