"Complete"Mumbles adding to Bcc...Roland Rhodes born 1855

Post by mumbles »

I have added a lot of info on Phillips/Rhodes/Pearson families but when researching this Roland Rhodes who married Mary Phillips :-

http://www.bcconnections.tribalpages.co ... =595444476

I found he died in 1891 and Mary Rhodes ( nee Phillips) married a John Pearson in 1897

Then I found this Roland Rhodes who was also born in Lye Worcs. in 1856/1857 and found him on all Ancestry trees as connected to Mary Phillipswhich is wrong as he died and Mary remarried

1901 Census Heron Street South Shields Durham
Roland Rhodes Head 45 Coal Miner born Worcs.
Mary Rhodes wife 35 born Sunderland Durham
Arthur Rhodes son 11 born walker Gate Northumberland
John Rhodes son 9 born Haswell Colliery Durham
Roland Rhodes son 2 born South Shields Durham

1911 Census 18 Heugh Street South Shields Durham
Roland Rhodes Head 54 Miner born Lye Worcs.
Mary Rhodes wife 45 born Bishopwearmouth Durham
Married 25 years ,7 children,4 living
Arthur Rhodes son 11 born walker Gate Northumberland
Mary Jane Rhodes dau 10
Roland Rhodes son 12
Eliza Rhodes dau 6
Rest born South Shields Durham

Free BMD has only one Roland Rhodes born Stourbridge 1855
and no marriage to Mary from Durham in 1886 so who is he

The 1891 death was his father, looks like he left his monry to his daughter.

Thanks grangers14
That solves it but strange that Mary is shown as widow on marriage to John Pearson

Priscilla Rhodes married John H. Knight but is shown as Rhodes in 1891 but husband in same house

1891 Census Waste Bank Wollescote Stourbridge Worcs.
Rowland Rhodes Head 60
Mary Rhodes wife 60
Priscilla Rhodes dau 34
John Rhodes son 24 Coal Miner
George Rhodes son 38 Labourer
John H. Knight son.in.law 39 Coal Miner born Lye Worcs.
Rest Wollescote Worcs.

I think it still stands by law mumbles!!
If you presume your spouse dead/or not seen them after 7 years you could leagally remarry. Many just used this rather than divorce that many couldnt afford to do!
I cant think of the exact law but i will try and find it...
