John Wakelam b abt 1858

Post by grangers14 »

We have John Wakelam on BCC here
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... lam-Family

Can we see if we can find him previous to marriage? I will add another thread for Selina.

I have added John's mother Mary Wakelam here

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... lam-Family

Mary states on her marriage to Major Hale that her father is Benjamin Bate, but I can't find a marriage of a Mary Bate & somebody Wakelam.

Will add Major Hale's parents and siblings on BCC tomorrow. My heads going round, as I thought I'd found Mary Wakelam's parents but was barking up the wrong tree

Thanks RF for the marriage. So, Mary Wakelam states that she's a Widow on her marriage to Benjamin Bate and she's got the same surname as her father. I wonder if this Widow bit is a mistake by the vicar and should read Spinster.

The Witness Elizabeth Wakelam is possibly Mary's sister as this looks like them on the 1841 census:-

1841 Census: Masons End, Sedgley
Aaron Wakelam, 34, Labourer
Rose Wakelam, 34
Mary Wakelam, 15
Elizabeth Wakelam, 13
James Wakelam, 9
William Wakelam, 7
Sarah Wakelam, 4
Esther Wakelam, 1
(All born in County)

Elizabeth then goes on to marry:-

Marriage from FreeREG
14 December 1846 at St John, Kates Hill
John Casswell, FA, B, Miner, Dudley, John Casswell, Miner
Elizabeth Wakelam, FA, S, Dudley, Aaron Wakelam, Labourer
Wit: John Hale, Lydia Heath

I'll have a look at the Benjamin Bate side tomorrow.

We are looking up the same Hale & Wakelam families Jo :-)

I've added Major Hale's parents here on BCC:-
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... ale-Family

And Aaron Wakelam family here:-

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... onnections

Shame to let all the work go to waste :-)
