Unusual or "dis-used names"

I'm sure, from time to time, you come across names during your searches which make you smile?

My great-great grandfather's middle name was Scarrinious which I've never seen anywhere else - admittedly he was Danish. But even on the Danish boards I frequent they admit it's a most unusual name only used by the nobility.....(smirks haughtily )

A name I don't often see these days is Maud, yet one of my great grandfather's children was called Maude - how unusual is that?

Whereas my own name is David - how boring...........

What about Septimus and Decimus. Were they meant for the 7th and 10th son or just the 7th and 10th child if a boy? Did sisters count?

We have a 'family' name of ASKIN (female) used three or four times over the generations, but with the slight variation in the 'Black Country' dialect, has been spelt HESKIN..ERSKINE on some censuses.............Not certain where it originates?... Sparks.

'Erskine' was a common name for girls in Scotland at one time.

although I must admit "Zepho" sounds nice!
