*Archive TBC * Cemetary records

Post by nocky1972 »

Hi there,
could anyone tell me the procedure for checking grave plot numbers. My grandfather Joseph Nock who died in 1943 (aged 27) is I believe buried in St Philips C of E church, Beeches Rd, West Bromwich. I have tried to phone the church for info but no answer. I would like to also check to see if his father and grandfather are also there.
Any suggestions ?

Regards

The archives may have a map of all the graveyard Plots they have some at Dudley. So West Brom would be Smethwick Archives.

So first find the burial then you know they are at that church
Then see if there is a monumental inscription transcribed book which will give you the actual plot number and then you can get the actual map and find it on there.

If no monumental inscription then you need to contact the church and get the plot number and they may also supply a map for you.

Might be worth just checking with Smethwick what they have they may have the full details for that particular church not just MI's.
And it might be A-z documented.

My understanding is that archives only have the MI info if transcribed.
But the church should have full info.

Hi there,
found out that West Bromwich Crem have all of the records for West Bromwich Cemetery on Heath Lane. Their records for this cemetery go back to when it opened in 1858/59. Very helpful lady called Diane is the registrar there.
