Hi,
While researching my interest in the above family, in particular, son Elijah who married Clara Ann Raybould, I came upon a sad tale about Elijah's daughter, Maria.
The Birmingham Daily Post of 13 Sept 1890 carries a report of the inquest into the death of a Maria Cartwright, daughter of Elijah and Lucy. It appears she was working in service in Blackpool and was arrested for theft. She escaped from the police and returned to her home but bought and drunk carbolic acid after she found out that her sweetheart, a George Woodhall, had finished their relationship. Verdict – suicide while temporarily insane

Also, was wondering if anyone could help with my search for Maria's brother Elijah. His wife Clara Ann (nee Raybould) remarried in 1900 (a John Harris) but I cannot find a death record for Elijah. There is a record on Ancestry of an Elijah in a prison ship and a transport to Australia, but my membership does not stretch to check the 'world-wide' records to ascertain whether this is anything to do with the same family.

Thanks...H
