Joseph & Thomas Bloomer

Post by maryann »

Help please with Joseph & Thomas Bloomer.
I believe Joseph Bloomer who married Mary Darby( on BCC) 19 Nov 1798 St. Thomas Dudley (Jan did look-up) is the father of Joseph & Thomas. The IGI has three listings for sons born to Joseph & Mary Bloomer Christened at Chapelry of Cradley as follows:
Joseph Bloomer C 22 Sept 1799
George Bloomer C 6 May 1801 (I added to BCC with wife, look up by RF)
Thomas Bloomer b. 23 May 1803 C 2 July 1803

Problem is I think Joseph is already on BCC with wife Phoebe Stevens, his b. shows about 1800. Thomas also is on BCC with wife Caroline Hadley, his b.about 1805. On census records Joseph & Thomas both indicate born Cradley. Their ages are close to christening data. They both has children name Joseph & Mary.
On 1841 Census Thomas is living a few doors from Joseph Sr. who by now is widowed. Don't know if this is enough evidence to show them as Joseph & Mary Bloomer's children, or just add another Joseph & Thomas. Suggestions, please.

Bit more info Maryann:- Wm Caleb Bloomer born 1831 built the British School in Halesowen, and lived next door at Beulah Lodge, which was still there when I was a child:-

The British School was founded by Caleb Bloomer who built it in 1867 (then known as The Islington Ragged School). Caleb Bloomer’s father, Thomas Bloomer, was a nail ironmonger who had a warehouse on the canal and lived in Haywood House on Mucklow Hill.

Caleb Bloomer lived at Beulah Lodge on Stourbridge Road, and died in 1872. The school was later purchased by the Primitive Methodists and eventually amalgamated with the Congregational Church School from Great Cornbow, to become the British School.

Early last century the British School was purchased by Worcestershire County Council, becoming the Stourbridge Road County Primary School in 1908 and later the Hawne County Primary School, but was still better known locally as the British School until it was closed and demolished in the 1980’s.
