Just wondering if annyone is suffering from the floods? Such terrible times for some people. Where I live hasnt been so bad, but our area used to and sometimes still is, a place where it floods. It made a massive difference having Tees Barage to stop the River Tees from being tidal and lots of flood defences in the town.
I can't understand these floods.I live under sea level.Where i live is encircled by a dyke it was once a lake and is reclaimed land.We never have floods.I think the UK government should invite the Dutch engineers over.

I hope that you typed that with crossed fingers! It is only 60 years since thousands died in Holland and Belgium, in flooding due to rain storm/sea conditions which "only" killed 307 in Britain. So it is largely a matter of where the problem hits. I think if these depressions had hit Holland one after another then even the modern flood defenses would have had something to think about.

Well as some of you might know , I live over the road from the River Avon . At the moment the river is running down towards Tewkesbury . It has to come up about 20 feet to hit the gardens of the houses across the road. We seem to be ok at the moment ,and Evesham , Pershore, Fladbury ,and Cropthorne are all ok too . So I am keeping my fingers crossed that all will be well soon .We went to Malvern on Sunday where my daughter lives ,and the traffic was very bad ,but we crossed the main bridge ,and I have never seen the river so high . At Powick the floods were being kept back with pumps . As soon as we had gone through the village everything was normal ,and the traffic flowed very well .I am not attempting to go into Worcester itself ,although all the shops are open

Saw the images of Devon (I think) where the main railway line along the sea defences was destroyed. I remember when it happened in Rhyl in about 1988, again sea defenses on which the railway ran. I was a student and the time, and all of a sudden people started turning up in casualty, some even had their pets with them. For months afterwards we'd see lorries loaded with big blocks of stone trundling up the A55.

Hope everyone's okay and not washed out! They've just shown some more on the weather forecast, no definate location other than they mentioned the Thames. They explained that the ground was saturated and that's what's causing the floods - so dykes etc wouldn't have helped much.

Thanks Jo . Hopefully we will get out of this intact, not like so many people . Its just the worry ,it freaks you out not knowing what is going to happen . I said to my hubby yesterday that if I were on my own it would be horrendous, so I told him if anything happens to him ,I am selling, and moving back to Malvern .

My cousin in Solihull says the wind is blowing the water under her door and flooding the house that way. She reckons it sounds like the end of the world.
My husbands on a rig in the North Sea at the momemt - he said it was very windy yesterday - but unless it blew while I slept, it died down before reaching us. Looks like it's going to blow a bit here tomorrow though (20m/s or 45mph, 73.4kmh or 40knots). Hope it's not too bad over there! Looking at the weather forecasts, it seems to be turned on it's head as it's colder in the UK than here in Denmark - we're usually comparible with the North of England.
