Abel Hill of Sedgley - possible new lead !--NL adding Bcc

Post by apowell »

Hi,

I hope everyone had a smashing Xmas and all the best for the New Year

I found on the Gateway to the past online catalogue this:
Located:
Lichfield Record Office
Level Item:
DocRefNo B/C/5/1788/39-41
Title:
Testamentary
Date 1788
Description Principal people:
Abel Hill, brother of the deceased;
Phebe Hill, widow relict and administratrix.
Principal place: Sedgeley, Staffordshire.
Deceased person: Aaron Hill, farmer.

This is of great interest because it may help unravel the mystery of Abel Hill's parentage listed here on BCC:
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... ill-Family

I can find only the above possible match for the Abel Hill mentioned above.

I found the marriage entry on freereg of Aaron Hill:
http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchRes ... rdID=50583

I've been stuck on this for years and I'm hoping to get some help to unravel this further

Kind regards
Adrian

Hi Northern Lass,

I'm still looking but I think I may have found Aaron's bapt':

Name:Aaron Hill
Gender:Male
Event Type:Baptism
Father:Moses Hill
Mother:Eliz Hill
Baptism Date:24 Jun 1739
Baptism Place:Birmingham, Warwickshire, England (parents residing Coseley, Staffs')
Denomination:Unitarian
Piece Title:Piece 2948: Birmingham, New Meeting House, Moor Street (Unitarian), 1719-1772 1782-1784

This is interesting:
http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchRes ... D=12217040

Someone kindly gave me this information a while back:
Found the following at All Saints Church, Sedgley:
ABEL HILL of [this] Parish Batchelor and MARY HUGHES of [this] Parish Spinster were married in this [Church] by [Banns] this ninth day of November in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventytwo by me Richd. Groome (Vicar).
This marriage solemnized by us - both signed by making X
In the presence of William Hughes and Joseph Higgs.

THOMAS HILL of [this] Parish Batchelor and ELIZABETH HUGHES of [this] Parish Spinster were married in this [Church] by [Banns] this eighth day of June in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventytwo by me Richd. Groome (Vicar)
This marriage solemnized by us - both signed by making X
In the presence of Joseph Bissell and Joseph Allen Junior.

BAILEY HILL of this Parish Batchelor and SARAH HUGHES of this Parish Spinster were married in this Church by Banns this Sixteenth day of June One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventysix by me Richd. Groome (Vicar)
This marriage solemnized by us - both signed by making X
In the presence of William Newton and Jonah Johnson.

It's possible that Bayley, Abel and Aaron were brothers. Bayley also married a Hughes maybe related to Abel's wife.

I can't find any bapt' for Abel yet but still looking.

Yes it's at Lichfield Aarchive office so I would have to either order a copy or pay someone to go and check the details. The only concern is it doesn't give any further information.

Regards
Adrian

Hi,

I've had no luck finding any suitable Abel Hill Bapt' but at least some further information that may help in the future. I may look into ordering the Staffs archives papers.

Ok to archive.
