I wonder if anyone has access to Ancestry or similar emigration records?

I am after the emigration details of a William Henry Oram b 1879 in Tynemouth Northumberland ...certainly northumberland.

I think he may have left between 1905 - 1907/8

The problem I have is that I am still not convinced he is not my Gt grandfather.

I have the birth certif for my nana which has her father as Daniel Simpson
and I have the marriage cert for my nana which has father as William Oram.
She is on the 1911 census with this Daniel Simpson and he has been covered in another thread.
Laura is down as a Simpson on there with her mother and her sibs are down as Oram which is what it says on there birth certifs.
Laura Simpson is the youngest age 3...born 16 April 1908
Minnie Oram is the next born 8 Nov 1905

there is no marriage at all for this Daniel Simpson and Amy Maud Beatrice Oram (nee Bell)

So I am not convinced that Daniel simpson is the father of Laura even though he is on birth cert
that could have been added to save face...perhaps Amy/Maud was already pregnant and Daniel offered to have his name on the certif.

I thought if I can establish when he went to america that would help
and
electoral registers.....are they every year?
Women got the vote in 1918..and I dont think they appeared on the actual registers till then...only head of house

On the birth cert mother puts down for Laura
16 April 1908 19 Dixon Street Bensham Gateshead
that might have been where Daniel was living not sure...


So if anyone has the emigration record for William Henry Oram that would help...

I can't see any emigration record that fits his age on the Ellis Island site,

1911 as this one, in Portsmouth.

ORAM WILLIAM HENRY, M, 1878, 33, Portsmouth, Hampshire.

Just checked it gives is birth place as Portsmouth.

I have tried Ancestry and Ellis Island, and nothing comes up that Fits.

Hi, not sure if I am doing this right but I have a bit more information on William Henry Oram. I am Grandaughter of Minnie Oram who was born 8th November 1905 and she told us that her Farther - the William Henry Oram mentioned above left when she was 3 months old. That would be Jan 1906. I cannot find him on the 1911 cencus and have been told that he went to either America or Australia - please can anyone help with any suggestions of how we can trace where he went. I would love to know (and so would my Mum).

I have full Ancestry and have had a look over a few days but not found anything concrete. There is a man in Australia, William Henry Oram, on the electoral rolls but there is no way of knowing his age.
I also checked the Australain passenger lists, assisted passenger 1839-1871 and unassisted 1852-1923. You can find them here,

so depending on age of that other one that might be him?

anythink on a census for that area?

Just been trying to follow from some trees by them marriages. The 1927 marriage William Henry was born 1891 in Australia so thats out. His father was Henry John Oram 1876, born Australia too.

Theres also find my past that has passenger lists, it does cost for viewing it mind. Doing a random search, using William including variants, birth year 1879+ - 2 years between 1890 and 1960. Including unstated first name and birth you get 51 hits!
