Sint Maarten

Post by Rob »

Today 11November is always Sint Maarten in Holland. The kids go around the doors with lantarns singing songs for sweets.
Just been out to get some and then we make little packages to give to the kids when they come to the door.
Last year we forgot the sweets and had to sit in darkness till 10 at night pretending we weren't home.

We got home late on Halloween , so hoped we had missed them ,as we had eaten all the sweets ourselves . It was nearly ten, there was a knock at the door !! my hubby opens it and very bravely tells them ,ITS TOO LATE !! They all started laughing. They were all young teenagers ,but they all went off quite happily
It's easy to stand with the crowd . It takes courage to stand alone

 Eesh Rob! I didnt mean to show my pants! I was just playing on the sand!

Most of the kids around here used to come here for me to help get them ready and for me to do face paint but they are older now. There isnt many young children here now. Theres only 22 houses here, 2 new ones being built on some land and a Lodge house.

In Denmark we eat duck on "Mortens Aften", which is the 10th (Martin's Eve), in rememberence of the geese that gave him away - why we don't eat goose I don't know!!
