Having recently received my grandads RAF service records from the MOD I have discovered he served with the 254 Squadron during WW2. His name was Johnny (John) Mckeown and from his records served between 1941-1946. On his service records it states he served with 254 squadron from 1945-46 (I can't understand the other information previous to this as it appears to be some kind of abbreviated military jargon). It appears he underwent his basic training at Weeton, Blackpool in 1942 which I think some kind of RAF training facility. From a bit of research on the internet 254 squadron flew the Beaufighters and convoyed patrols over coastal shipping and took part in reconnaissance missions. Does anyone have any further information about 254 squadron as I would love to find out more.
Many thanks
Darren Mckeown
