Good morning, folks. We are aware that there is a problem accessing your trees, and we are working on it. I will get back to you as soon as I have news to share.
Thank you for your patience.
.......
We've completed our initial assessment of the current outage and have some information we can provide:
1) We have verified that the databases are all in good working order and that no data has been lost.
2) While we have designed the system to have no single point of failure, we had multiple failures in the "middle tier" today. That is allowing the boards and login code to work, but the tree generation to fail.
3) We're looking for a way to get everyone up and running as quickly as possible, but it's likely to take several hours to have anyone up.
4) It's possible that some trees will be accessible before others: this is normal and due to how we partition the sites. We will post updates to this thread as we go.
5) It's possible that we may have to replace physical hardware to resolve this. That will likely take around 24 hours. We are trying hard to avoid that, but want to put the possibility out there.
Finally, just a note: hardware failures and human errors occur, and all we can do is plan for them. The real mistake we made here is that we weren't notified when the first failure occurred and therefore were caught off-guard when the second occurred. This is exactly what we plan against, and all we can do is apologize and work quickly to restore your sites.
This thread will be updated as things change.
