22 Avenue Road, Blackheath
This was my grandfather address at the time of his death in 1941
just had a look on Google Maps and found this -
http://www.google.co.uk/maps?q=&layer=c ... CDMQxB0wAA
As you can see, there is a No 20, then the double house and then no 23. Looks like the double house has been made into one (no front doors) Am I correct in thinking that the one on the right would have been my grandfather's house or am in the wrong area?

i would say thats 21 and 22 if you look under the small downstairs windows you can see the different bricks used to block in the doorways
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

Yes Pete, I noticed that too!
I always thought that this part of Avenue Road had been knocked down
I don't know where I got this from...

I drove up that road a couple of years ago San, looking for No 39. My ex's grandparents lived there in 1911

Re: 22 Avenue Road, Blackheath
Could have been, I took a photo of that house, but that one could have been two houses and that middle door could have been an entry door, with the two front doors opening into the entry, like a house I used to have in Langley. And of course you never know if the numbers have been changed over the years. There might have been some houses knocked down to make way for the building next door.

There must be a way of finding out those things, Land Registry perhaps?

Hadn't really thought about it - might ask my daughter, she's a solicitor, she would probably know if records exist as far back as 1911. There were never any houses opposite, so odd and even numbers would all have been on the one side.

Re: 22 Avenue Road, Blackheath
Had a word with Lesley and she says that Land Registry started, about 1928, but wasn't really taken seriously until the mid 1940's. Even then, people didn't use it properly until the 1960's. So, if the numbers were changed before the 1960's, we will probably never know.
