Certainly am Robert no stone unturned............actually isnt it weird when you do turn over stones what you find underneath...........might put that on as another interesting thread
So back to my very interesting Solar Panals .....anyone got them
To get back on topic. My uncles 83 and 81 have had solar panels installed since last october.Too early as yet to determine if they will be more cost reducing but they are confident that in the long run they will be.The only ones in the street to have them. I'd have them myself but they look ugly on your roof.I'll wait until they discover a more attractive way of installing them. If your roof faces north can you still have them?

did they get a grant?
wot do you mean a more attractive way of installing them you mean flowers on them, or different colours? cos like they are solar panels.........clue is in the word panels! big slabs!
We had a call this week saying we could have them for free mmmmm, not so sure Saying a grant from government that isn't being advertised Going to send some info will keep you posted.
We looked at installing them; we have an ideal position with a lot of south facing roof (being a bungalow), but once I'd looked at the true figures (don't rely on the salesman's ones there is plenty of independent advice out there but you do need a bit of knowledge of maths)I knew I could do better with the initial investment money than the return via electric but if you've only got your money in the bank at the low interest rates available it might work out Ok. It's a much better deal for commercial companies who can write off the installation costs against their tax bill, in fact I'd make it compulsory for commercial buildings to have solar roofs.
There wouldn't be so many people falling over themselves to sell it to you if they weren't making a fat profit from it.
Don't forget that the panels lose efficiency over time so eventually you'll be left with a heap of junk on the roof and no output.
Our local doctor's surgery has them. Problem is it's a low rise building and you come upon it from a bit of a slope. I didn't realise they were so reflective, but when the sun is out, the effect is blinding, just on a cross roads. You'll know where it is Rob, opposite the George Pub on Pottery Road. Most of the NHS buildings and schools where I live have them.
In Denmark there are restrictions in some Places as to what roofing material you can use (ie non reflective), but then yo can put a very ugly solar panel up and that's okay. The other thing is that you get government supsidies if you put them on top of an existing roof, but not if they're an Integrated part of the roof which is prettier!
