Victorians. Choosing name for baby.

We all know the tradition through history to name the first born of each gender after the parents and of course naming after other family members, but one surprising trend I am starting to see while carrying out transcription work, is that number of babies, especially those who already have a number of siblings, being named the same as one of the family servants.

I just been thinking how common was this practice, as it can not be co-incidence. However maybe it turns out that many people listed as Servants, are family members anyway and just employed as such. Just an interesting observation to mull over.

Not many of my family had servants so it's not something I'd noticed

same here, although a few did have the odd servant, so I'll keep my eyes peeled.
