Help when Entries don't match!!

Hi All

Still finding my feet but on a couple of occasions when I have searched for someone there are 2 enteries.

What I mean is there is an entry with a registration date of say January 1970 and another with a date of January 1971. Both the same person and but one says Registered 1970 and year of event 1971 and the other says Registered 1971 and year of event 1971?

Can anyone clarify?

May be an aleration to the certificate?
A mistake on it or an added or removed farther?

That makes sense,so would the earlier entry be correct with the late entry being an amendment?

Im not certain to be honest?
And Im not sure if you order a cert if it shows the amendment or not?

Thanks for the link I have had a read and I understand about making changes.

I just need someone to confirm that if it says:

Joe Bloggs
Registered January 1959
Year of event 1960. (I assume this is year of registration)

Then another record for:

Joe Bloggs
Registered January 1960
This record doesn't state year if event!

Does that mean the birth took place in January 1959 but was not registered until 1960? And perhaps the second entry may be for an amendment?

The birth year is what is important and I am assuming it would be January 1959 in this example?
