How I hate it when this happens....

Post by MarkCDodd »

Whenever it looks like a storm in brewing, Huntsmen Spiders find their way into the house.

If they come into my den then the only light comes from my monitors.

So they crawl along the ceiling till they are above my desk then drop down to investigate the pretty lights.

They then stop just in front of my eyes or plop onto my keyboard.

One actually fell into my coffee a week back...

Now these guys are between 4 and 6 inches across.

Usually not aggressive unless protecting an egg sack but still, they are a bit creepy if you are concentrating on the screen and they appear as an out of focus eight legged blob in front of you.

If they plop onto the keyboard they scurry off looking for a hidey spot so they can jump out and go "Boo!" later on.

I love Australia if it wasn't so far away i'd live there except for thuse things you have in your hand!!
My cousin told me that they had spiders that crawled up through the toilet and one bite was instant death!!
In the end i had to stand on the seat!!
Can you picture this?

I suppose you believed him about Drop Bears as well

Outside dunnies are a favorite place for snakes and spiders.

You might encounter a Redback Spider on or under the dunnie seat but they can't climb up the porcelain to bit you on the bum!

People have had problems with snakes detecting the water and making their way for a drink into the toilet bowl.

It is the Sydney Funnel Web spiders that are the menace. They love crawling into your shoes or clothes dropped on the floor.

I think Sydney has the only teenagers in the world who keep their bedroom floor free of dirty clothes

Of course you get little kids like this fella who collected snake eggs and let them hatch in his cupboard at home....

I think Australia is a lovely place, and if I was wealthy I would live there when its our winter. I would have to have a luxury apartment high up , probably the Penthouse. So that the spiders don't get me. If i win the lottery I'll come and visit you Mark ,but i wouldn't tell you when in case you went out  Dt

Not as brave as he seems. That is an empty husk. They shred their skin when they get too big for it. So the real one is bigger than that.

To take Huntsmen outside, I catch them under a glass, slide a piece of card across the mouth of the glass, then let the spider go free in the bushes. Once we had one in the bedroom so big that I had to use a soup bowl to catch it!

I don't mind them in most of house 'cos they eat other spiders, but can't stand them in the bedroom. I keep imagining one dropping into my open mouth when I'm snoring

People say they won't come near you, but I did have one drop down in the night once... Woke up to the pitter-pat of little feet across the pillow.

What I really hate is finding one in the car when I'm driving. They love to hide behind the sun visor. It's a bit startling when you put the visor down to find a huge spider right before your eyes. What's worse is that they often get a fright too, and drop into your lap. Had that happen once. Zoomed off onto the median strip and stopped in a bush while I leapt out of the car and performed a very strange dance to the amazement of the morning peak hour traffic!
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.

I have often wondered how many crashes Huntsman behind the visor are responsible for?

She wouldn't let you take pictures of her hands!!!

See is embarrassed by how dirty and scratched they are from her knuckles being dragged along the ground.
