Hi from dear old Glasgow town
Hi
I've been involved in genealogy for ten years or so. The majority of my family are Scottish although I have roots to both Belfast & Dublin.
I do have some English based ancestors namely HAMBLET, WALSH and RICHARDSON. Despite having my tree posted on other sites I have not found anyone that can help me get further back. I'll post some detail soon and perhaps some helpful soul here will offer advice.
In turn if any of the members here need a hand with their elusive Scots relatives just ask.
Kind regards
mactavish

Re: Hi from dear old Glasgow town
Thanks for the Welcomes
These WALSH ancestors of mine are all in England with no indication of being Irish. In fact the first name Anyon is used in this branch which I believe is a name used in Wales.
Cheers

Hi mac, welcome to the forum
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

Glasgow kiss is a head butt. Within Glasgow itself the term 'Gorbals kiss' is often used, referring to the most dangerous area of Glasgow. It is hypothesised that within Gorbals it is known as a Crown Street kiss; and on Crown Street it is called a Number 73 kiss; and at Number 73 it is known as mactavish's kiss. mactavish, however, calls it whatever he wants to.
Perhaps
Love ain't like the movies
it blisters and bruises
and knocks you about with its fists
It Leaves you a wreckage
all postaged and packaged
and sealed with a Glasgow kiss

Although I prefer
I belong to Glasgow,
Dear old Glasgow town;
But what's the matter wi' Glasgow,
For it's goin' roun' and roun'!
I'm only a common old working chap,
As anyone here can see,
But when I get a couple o' drinks on a Saturday,
Glasgow belongs to me!

Re: Hi from dear old Glasgow town
Its only a few miles from gorbals here. Last time I went through hardly recognized the place , from my visits when crown street was all old tenements. Just the odd old building still around.
