ARC TBC.............Coley Smith St Kenelms Burials

Post by dumblonde »

Richard Coley Smith and his wife Sarah are buried at St Kenelms Romsley, already on BCC

Burials at St Kenelms not on BCC

no 1086 Jack Coley (John) buried 1/3/1960 aged 74 of The Quarry Hasbury - Richards son

no 733 Martha Coley (nee Roberts) buried 30/3/1940 aged 78 of 258 Hagley Rd - wife of Richards son Thomas

no 1021 Thomas Coley Smith buried 17/4/1956 aged 95 of The Quarry Hasbury - son of Richard

no 785 Harry Coley Smith buried 30/9/1942 aged 75 of 50 St Kenelms Ave - son of Richard

NOW HERE IS THE CONUNDRUM!!

in the same grave of Harry no 785 and the grave alongside of Richard and Sarah Coley Smith are:

Harry Coley Smith 1850 - 1920 and
no 527 Annie Coley Smith 1850 - 1920 buried 20/9/1920 aged 70 of 254 Hagley Rd

Who on earth are these last two? Richard could not have a son born in1850 and if his mother died when he was born he couldn't have a brother especially called Coley Smith could he :?

Hi Jimmy it was me not Mally. Just re-checked Ancestry, it says:- 1911 England Census Summary Books - Halesowen - Hagley Road Schedule 139 No 69 Mr H Smith Private House. 138 No 68 Grocers Shop Mrs Coley. Don't know if that is significant or not? Can't find them anywhere else. Linell.

You are right about Jack died 1960, my mistake he can't be Richards son. But he died at the Quarry, which appears to be one of Richards properties. He bought various houses with nailshops and put his children in them to work as a family business. If you notice Thomas Coley Smith (Richards son)died there in1956. Richards daughter Annie who married George Moore also lived there at one time, because of this connection surely he must be a relative

Quarry is Quarry Lane Dumblonde, a street which led down to the Quarry, the Coley Smith family probably lived in neighbouring houses, one of my Willetts, Thomas lived down there too. Linell.
