Killed in Action

I believe in the WW1 and WW2 next of kin were informed by telegram when the soldiers, etc were killed in action.

What I'm wondering is if they still issued Death Certificates in such cases or was receiving the telegram the end of the matter?

I sent for and got a Death Cert for my Husbands Uncle he died in GREECE Sept 1916 I found his record in london but they have all gone to Kew now,

I had a uncle who was in the 1WW, no one in the family could remember much apart it was the battle of somme got some information from this web page http://www.cwgc.org hope it works :) gave me his rank, division ,date and age and a story of the war

Many thanks for that link Diane Pearson!

From there I have discovered my grandfather's brother's son was indeed killed in action towards the end of WW1 and buried in Iran. I did'nt realise Iran (then Persia) was involved in WW1? Seems my history knowledge is wanting?

it would of been a part of the turkish ottoman empire same as iraq
