Checking out granddad's family..... A couple of odd thing crop up
Granddad's birth apparently registered late!
His date of birth is 1915, but according to the index, it was registered in second quarter of 1927 some 12 years late!
But another surprise, When it comes to his parents marriage, it seem they didn't get married until 1925!
So managed to get hold of Aunt mim, (should say great aunt mim) see if she could throw any light on it, but it's something that's been a mystery to her, she never saw the original certificate, only the one she's order a few years ago, which she assumed the record office had got it wrong...
I've checked the marriage registry using several sources, all coming back to 1925 is the only time that the combination of names, both G,granddad's and G.Grans are the same anywhere in the country! Late entry can be ruled out, as they got married at the registry office!
The only explanation I can come up with, is that no they weren't married in 1915 or before, we know that G.Granddad was either in the Somerset Light's or Welsh Fusilers during WW1 (we have a picture of him in his uniform) So either had to return from leave, or joined up just before Grandad was born! And perhaps wasn't back until the end of the war in 1918 or after, but some how I don't think it took him almost 6 years to return, hopefully his service records might shine a light on it!
Any thoughts anybody!
Thankfully MIL, is quite excited about trashing the ancestors and the thought of finding 'goings on'....

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

Re: Late Marriage or not!
I wonder if the year is significant? My Grandfather was born 'out of wedlock' in the Workhouse and his Mother was popping them out, like a pop gun on the 'Shoot 'em down' stall at the fair!!
She had 3 before my Grandfather and then the next child after him was given the surname of the man she finally married. She had her first child in 1900. My Grandfather was born 1908 ish and I think she had another 3 before she finally sneaked off to another town to get married in the Register Office. I think she had three children, given their Father's surname, before they finally married in 1914.
My Grandfather had his birth registered under his Mother's maiden name but in 1927, his birth was re-registered under the surname of the man his Mum finally married. On the certificate was a note saying his birth had been re-registered under the new Legitimacy Act of the previous year.
So I think that could explain the date on the birth certificate.
My Great Grand-Parents even lied on the 1911 Census, saying they were married, when they clearly weren't.
And I thought I was a naughty girl!!!

Just because you're Paranoid, it doesn't mean to say they're not out to get you.

Re: Late Marriage or not!
It may not be relevant but I've had an instance where a couple married, they had children, he then went off to war where he was killed, a year or so later (too long for it to have been her husband's) the woman had another child, then 18 months later married the man's younger brother and the two of them went on to have more children.
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.

Re: Late Marriage or not!
I think the legitimacy Act is the probable the reasons..
As I found another child, born several year later than G.Granddad and one child before after they married...
G.Granddad died when he was 36, just five years after they finally married and G.Gran never remarried! We do know were they buried, Across the road form each other, the cemetery is on two sides of the road! Apparently G.Gran Choice!
Interestingly G.Gran and G.Granddad aren't buried together, he died about 5 years after they married, so he's buried in the smaller/older part of the graveyard that sits on one side of the road, and G,Gran died 20 years later as was buried in the larger graveyard on the opposite side of the road! According to Anut Min, she didn't want to be buried with him, so this is her choice!
