ARC..Billingham/Hammond/Kimber/Rowley connections and more!

Post by sp1 »

Lots of connections beginning with this family here:
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... ham-Family

William Billingham is with his mother and her second husband in 1841, he is still with his step-father, Samuel Hammond, in 1851, but his mother has died.

Samuel Hammod appears to have married four times - but only three wives appear with him in the census, as one seems to have died before 1841 (there are children born before his marriage to Jane).

OK.......
here's the census:

I will start adding what I have to BCC over the next few days, in the meantime here is what I have found re Samuel Hammonds marriages:

First wife - havent a clue!

Second wife: Jane (widow of Samuel Billingham):
appears to be this one (Lookup needed) 21 March 1836, St Mathew, Walsall, Samuel Hammond/ Jane Bellingham

Third wife: Martha
have two possibles (may be the same??):
FreeBMD Sept 1847, Dudley 18, 363, Samuel Hammond/ Martha Matilda Wright
WestMidsBMD 1847 St Thomas, Dudley, Samuel Hammond/ Martha Bacon
.......wonder if Martha was a widow and is listed under her two different surnames on the two versions of BMD???

Fourth wife:
this was to Ann KIMBER - definitely, as she remarried after Samuels death, and children with her in later census with second husband.
Cant find marriage for Samuel Hammond and Ann KIMBER, but a possible is: (WestMidsBMD) 1860 St Thomas Dudley, Samuel Hammond/ Ann Archer - if it is this one I havent found marriage for Ann Kimber/ Archer

Note that Benjamin Kimber lived with Samuel Hammond for a long time! In 1861 he is listed as brother-in-law, but he was not, he was Ann's uncle. The Mary listed at the same time as niece was not - she was Ann's sister, already on BCC married to Richard Ghent Rowley:

More on Samuel Hammond:
bapt 17 Apr 1803, Broseley, Shropshire, s of William Hammond/ Sarah

died 28 Nov 1871 - he left a will, one of the executors was James Kimber, Ann's brother. His occupation given at death was Engineer.
His son Samuel was listed as an Engine Fitter & Licensed Victualler, living at the 'Cat Inn', Wordsley in 1881 - small world: used to go in there when I worked at Wordsley Hospital! - this Samuel ended up in Australia.

HELP!!Re: Billingham/Hammond/Kimber/Rowley connections and m

Post by sp1 »

HELP!!!!!

have just started adding details for Samuel Hammond, but luckily hadn't gone too far - Jan/Jo can you help me sort this out as he is now on twice - OOOOPS very very sorry!!!

On the plus side:
The Ann Archer marriage I mentioned, and added by Maggie is wrong - parents are wrong, as evidenced from lookup listed!

But,.....BINGO - the marriage for Martha, given by Maggie (third marriage) - one of the ones I mentioned (Martha Bacon) as a widow, father Abraham 'HUMBER' - now realise this is/was Martha KIMBER - George Kimbers sister (he is now on BCC), so it turns out that Benjamin Kimber who lived with Samuel Hammond all those years really was his brother in law, and additionally his 4th wifes uncle!!! And Mary Kimber was his niece, but also his sister in law. What a mess!

Very sorry, but what a find!
