Trying to sort out some of my early Uptons.
Edward Upton married Elizabeth Lynn in 1798 in Yoxall, Staffordshire.
They are my 4th Great Grandparents.
The Uptons were all miners, either Stone or Coal, for many generations.
As far as I can tell, Edward and Elizabeth had 14 children between 1799 and 1827.
Baptisms were at Hamstall Ridware, Cannock, Longdon, Hanbury.
The children all ended up living around the Norton Canes and Walsall districts.
I am pretty sure I have the childen correct and there is an anomally that might help.
These three seem to have all married on the same day!
John Upton bap: 10 Nov 1805, Cannock married Sarah Craddock at Cannock on the 19 Nov 1827.
Sarah Upton bap: 08 Oct 1809, Longdon married William Thomas at Cannock on the 19 Nov 1827.
Edith Upton bap: 15 Nov 1807, Longdon married Edward Martin at Cannock on the 19 Nov 1827.
Does anybody have access to the Cannock register?
Does it provide any more information on marriages?

Re: Uptons by the score....
Just found the marriages on FreeReg and the parents names and occupations are not listed.
They all witnessed for each other!
Edith Upton uses her new married name of Edith Martin so she must have been the first one to get married that day.
They must be my Uptons......
The Uptons continued to breed like rabbits so it may be a while before I start fleshing out the BCC tree.

Aaaaaaaarghhhhh......
I hate the Uptons almost as much as the Homers.
This census seems to put a dent in in the theory...

Re: Uptons by the score....
One of Edward sons was convicted of stealing chickens and sent to Oz for seven years.
The convict records are brilliant and they confirm the family members I have on my tree.
Whilst his family were struggling in the coal mine and rock quarries, he was digging for gold in the richest goldfields in the world!!!
I think I know who got the better deal.

Re: Uptons by the score....
Nah...this is one of those I will have to sit and think about.....
I must admit I didn't expect convict records to help resolve a brick wall in Walsall
