Thomas Scriven and Family - Sedgley

Post by Antie Em »

Can someone try FMP for this family in 1841 and 1861 please. Can't find them on Ancestry - probably transcribed wrong, but I have looked at possibilities.

1851 : Laws Hill, Sedgley, Staffs
Thomas Scrivens, Head, 50, Nailer
Sarah Scrivens, Wife, 44, Nailer
William Scrivens, Son, 21, Labourer
John Scrivens, Son, 24, Labourer
Sarah Scriven, Daur, 23, Nailer
Mary Ann Scriven, Daur, 13
John Scriven, Son, 8
Henry Scrivens, Son, 4
All Born in Sedgley

Thanks - Maggie

does this help?

1861 Spent House, Sedgeley
LAY, Stephen Head Married M 33 1828 Farmer Of 55 Acres Of Emp 1 Man 1 Boy Sedgley, Staffordshire
LAY, Sarah Sister Unmarried F 41 1820 Sedgley, Staffordshire

LAY, Prudance Sister Unmarried F 21 1840 Sedgley, Staffordshire
LOUISA, Henry Servant Unmarried M 12 1849 Plough Boy Sedgley, Staffordshire

The last one here is transcribed as Henry Scriven on Ancestry
I would ahve said it was Law rather than LAy from the original

Thanks MG - I had seen those on Ancestry but couldn't make a connection.

I have now looked at baptisms for the children and it looks like their mother was Mary.

There is a death registered in 1837 for Mary Scriven

I have found a marriage in Wolverhampton for Thomas Scriven to Sarah Timmins in 1845.

I thought Sarah was maybe married before, but the marriage records her as a spinster (no father's name)

I've had a look at a couple of Ancestry trees, and they have no 1841 or 1861 census either.

Hate it when I can't find one census let alone two :(
