Hi

I am trying to find a connection between a family in and around Birmingham and one of the same name in and around Newfound in Hampshire .
Does anyone know if there was a general movement of people to or from either of these areas at some time in the past?
I think that one of the wives in Hampshire was born in Alderminster which is on the way to Birmingham, but I am really struggling as I am well out of my depth.

Perhaps that was not Alderminster but Aldershot Hampshire wrongly transcribed
-also army & navy families traveled around and children were often born in different areas

Alec it is almost definitely Alderminster.

HAMPSHIRE GOODALLS

I have a definite John (Newfound, Hampshire)& Jemima (Newfound)Goodall married 8 August 1836 in I think Wootton St Lawrence, Hampshire.

Their parents are I believe John Goodall(b. abt 1781 in Newfound) married Ann Taplin (b. Alderminster)in Dummer 1804 March 12th

BIRMINGHAM/WARWICKSHIRE GOODALLS

Very strangley there is a direct line of sight between Wootton St Lawrence, Alderminster and Cheapside in Birmingham where William, Catherine(nee Gower b.1817), Thomas, Mary C and William Goodall are registered in 1891 & I believe 1881.

I have traced these Goodalls back to Edward(b.1791 Astley Abbotts, Bridgnorth, Birmingham I think)married Phoebe Southwell (christened april 3rd 1791 St Leonards Bridgnorth) on March 18th 1813.

Also there is Mary Ann Goodall, 37 years old(widow)with sons John 17, William 15 & Joseph 13 at 83 Longmore St. Birmingham in 1871.

Either of these two Goodall families would fit the bill.

Frustratingly I cannot find any trace of Mary Ann Goodall anywhere else (nothing in 1861 census when she would have had her 3 sons and presumably married, although I realise that you can't presume anything, was Goodall her married name even?)
Neither can I find any trace of her 3 sons except possibly Joseph died 1911OND aged 54 in Birmingham. I have tried everything that I can think of but to no avail.

Sorry if the info is a bit scatty, I am a bit disorganised at times in my eagerness to find a connection.

Many thanks for all the information.

Something that I can't understand is why a widow with 3 children, eldest being 17, in the 1871 census doesn't show up in the 1861 census.

I looked for everyone individually in case they had been split up when her husband died, but to no avail.

there is a possibility that catherine is a second wife and not mother to the kids ?
