ARC TBC..........The mysterious dissappearing Attwood family

Post by mezentia »

I was checking some remote bits of my wife's tree, in particular the family of one Alfred Attwood, b1845 in Cradley. He married Mary Howell on 25 September 1864 at St Thomas' in Dudley, and had several children, all born in Cradley if the censuses are to be believed:

Thomas 1866
Alfred 1868
Selina (or Celina) c1869, but died before 1881
Elizabeth 1872
Caroline 1876, and
John H 1881

Alfred senior is easily tracked on the 1851, 1861, 1871, and 1881 censuses, as are his wife and children from 1871 onwards. Then the entire family dissappears, and there's no mention on any census from 1891 onwards. I can't find any emigration records, or a re-marriage for Mary.

I've tried all the tricks I know to find them on Ancestry and FMP, but to no avail.

So, does anyone have any suggestions, or information, to help find this elusive family?

Seems like they emigrated, then

Thanks for the replies. I don't have an ancestry subscription that covers the US, which is probably why I didn't spot them. I wonder how come they got to emigrate?

Not quite ... :?:

Where are Alfred and Mary's older children, Thomas and Alfred? Did they emigrate too, or did they stay in England? Where did Caroline get married?
Why are there two christenings for Alfred/Alfred Joseph, one in 1867 and one in 1868. Did one Alfred die?

Just noticed that this branch is not on BCConnections.
