Post by Fatman »

I am looking for Charles Gowler in 1840

Here he is in 1851 Living in Essex:

Charles Gowler 28 b Huntingdon
Martha Gowler (nee Slapp) 29
Eanniel Gowler 5
Maria Gowler 4
Charles Gowler 2

Hi Father is John as per his marriage certificate but I think he might be dead.

Charles dies in 1860, so wont be in the 1861 census.

Thanks

I presume this is the 1861 Census:

14 High Bridge St. Waltham Abbey
Martha GOWLER hd. Widow 39 Tailoress b. Norwich
Edmund H.GOWLER son 15 Working in Enfield, London b.Cambridge.
Maria A.GOWLER dau.13 b.Waltham Abbey.
Charles GOWLER son 12 b.Waltham Abbey
Washington GOWLER son 9 b.Waltrham Abbey
Stanford GOWLER son 9 b.Waltham Abbey.

This is the nearest I can find in 1841.
Working in :
Chamberlains Market Place,St Peter,Mancroft, Norwich.
Charles GOLDER 15 Linen Draper (transcribed as GOLER)

That is the 1861 census yep!

The witnesses are Maria Slapp and Charles Lovett.

In 1844 they live in East Road somewhere in Cambridge

No doubt you have the Slapps but I will add them in case they help to find Charles :-)

1841
Cambridge, ?? Street
Edmund Slapp 55 carpenter y
Sarah ditto 55 n
Martha ditt 21 n
Chrisr ditto 14 n

Cambridge, London Road
Maria Slapp 30 n (in house with Sarah Base/Bare, 38 charwoman, and her two children)

IGI

Maria Sarah Slapp bpt 8 Mar 1810 Aldborough/Brundall, Norfolk (Edmund Slapp and Sarah West Slapp)
Elizabeth Slapp 17 May 1812 Aldborough/Brundall, Norfolk (Edmund Slapp and Sarah West)
Martha West Slapp 20 Aug 1819 St Augustine, Norwich (Edward Slapp and Sarah)
Matthew Slapp bpt 14 Sep 1823 St Augustine, Norwich Edmund Slapp and Sarah

Name: Charles Gowler

There is this 1841?

Not very convincing :(
