Where would I find an inquest held in 1861?
I have a death cert for an twelve year old boy who was killed by machinery in Wednesbury. The certificate says that an inquest was held.

Inquests were held in public places convenient to the place of death and witnesses.

They are usually widely reported in the newspapers.

Unlike Australia, where all inquests are kept in a central location for each State/Territory, the UK inquests are stored all over the place.

I suggest you try the National Archives first....

According to the death certificate:
Charles Thomas Fellows died on the 5th June 1861 in Wednesbury.

He was 12 years old and was killed by machinery. His father is recorded as William Fellows (although I suspect this is incorrect, I think his father was John Brittain Fellows; and the William mentioned is Charles' brother. I can only find one other Charles Fellows on the 1861 census, namely the said William's son. However he was only 10 months old on the census and grew up and got married). I cannot find Charles Thomas Fellows after the 1861 census.

The informant was the coroner and an inquest was held on the 7th June 1861.

I'd be grateful if you could look up any newspaper archives.

I've been in touch with the archives, no surviving records for this period.
And no local newspapers either - they suggested there might be something in the Birmingham newspapers, but no luck there either.

So this is a dead end and can be archived
