John Joseph Coleman Help Please! ARC TBC

Post by lostinthetree »

I've been trying unsuccessfully to find out about the family of my great great grandfather John Joseph Coleman. The info I have so far is:

Born- 1862 Kings Cross
1881,1891 and 1901 he appears on the census. Occupation wheelwright.
Marries Elizabeth Rothe in 1885, they have 3 children- John(1886), Ada (1887) and Florence (1889-1983)
Marries Lydia Lavinia Harris in 1892 and they have two children Lydia (1894) and Beatrice (1900)
He dies in 1958.

There is a family rumour of Coleman being part of a double barrelled name that had part of it dropped after John had a 'disagreement' with his business partner and the family had to do a moonlight flit. Unfortunately no one knows what the full name was!

John's father is apparently a Charles Coleman who was a missionary but I can't find out anything further.

If anyone can help I would be so grateful and able to sleep aagain!!
Thank you

His second wife was only 16! Cradle snatcher!

He put his fathers professions as Missionary on both marriages but all witness are on the wifes' side.

If born 1862 he would have only just completed his apprentiship by the 1881 census so I doubt he had time to start a business and change his surname.
