While looking for Mary Cummings dad William Cummings
I came across this on 1861 census

Piece: RG9/480 Place: Gillingham -Kent Enumeration District: 01
Civil Parish: Gillingham Ecclesiastical Parish: Brompton
Folio: 73 Page: 1 Schedule: 0
Address: Royal Engineers Barracks


Colonels, lieutenants, cooks etc etc and lots of Inmates from royal engineers
