sorting out the Moretons from the Mortons and Hortons
Have added Census to this Moreton/Morton family
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =745371863
and it is now easier to follow
However following on from this their son William married an Elizabeth Beet at St. Thomas Dudley not Rowley Regis as shown ( married as Moreton)
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =204769258
Following on from this a daughter Mary Ann Moreton born 1859 is noted but I believe the 1881 Census is mistranscribed and this is Mary Jane Moreton on original
1881 Census 14 Beet Street Rowley Regis Dudley Staffs.
William Morton Head 46 General Labourer
Elizabeth Morton wife 41 Nail Maker
Mary Jane Morton dau 22 Nail Maker
Alice Morton dau 12 Scholar
William Morton son Scholar
Hannah Morton dau 5 Scholar
Elizabeth Morton dau
Minnie Morton dau 0
All born Rowley Regis
This Mary Jane Morton married a William Guest at St. John Halesowen
(Married as Mary J. Morton )
and they had a daughter Emma Guest who married an Alfred Boot at St. Pauls 1911
Alfred died in ww1 and is on RR Roll of Honour at St. Pauls

You could add a note on Mary saying mistrancribed as Mary Ann if you are sure that her middle name is Jane.
How is her birth registered?
Do you have her marriage record?

The image does say Jane, transcribed as Ann.
Re: sorting out the Moretons from the Mortons and Hortons
Definitely Mary Jane on 1881 Census and Mary J. on 1871 Census and Mary J. on 1901 Census but Polly in 1911

Connection to Alfred Boot is confirmed by CWGC record which shows his wife as Emma at 56 John Street which is her parents house in 1911

Re: sorting out the Moretons from the Mortons and Hortons
She was Mary Ann, known as Polly. My Mum knew her. Hannah was my great-grandma. Her birth was registered as Moreton, but she married as Morton. I have lots of certs for this family. It must have me who mistakenly put the mattiage down as RR instead of Dudley. Just shows how easy it is to make mistakes even when you have the certs in front of you! Sorry!

She seems to be Mary Jane on census and on marriage so on Bcc we will keep it as Mary Jane.
Maybe she changed her name to Mary Ann later?

Re: sorting out the Moretons from the Mortons and Hortons
witnesses at wedding of William Guest and Mary Jane Moreton were John Rolandson and Mary Rolanson who appear to be relatives as James Harris first wife Jane Rollason had a brother John Rollason born 1866

Re: sorting out the Moretons from the Mortons and Hortons
Sorry, I'm getting confused here, She is Mary Jane, but was known as Polly. Was looking at previous generation. Interesting that Ann Eliza also married a guest. I knew her, she was my great great aunt . Mumbles, my family live to great ages! Ann Eliza b Moreton was over 90 when she died.
