The BIG "C" causing havoc in the Dodd family...

Post by MarkCDodd »

Hardly done any Genealogy stuff over the last few weeks because:

a) A good friend died of cancer. She had been in remission for almost ten years and then it came back with a vengeance. She went from healthy to dead in a month. She helped so many others battling cancer it seems unfair it came back and claimed her. One of the funniest people I have ever known and will be sadly missed.

b) My Sister In Law, who I have now known for over 35 years, was rushed to hospital due to complications with treatment she had for a brain tumour a few years ago. She survived brain cancer at the same time as her husband, my eldest brother. The odds of both having similar cancers at the same time were pretty high!! Looks like she will be OK.

c) My father was diagnosed with a melanoma inside his mouth. Skin cancer is a big killer in Australia but it is pretty rare to get one in the mouth. Looks like it was shallow and they caught it in time. They are debating if he should have radiation treatment or take the risk they can remove it all. Typical Mum reckons its because he never shuts up he got one in the mouth :P

d) My uncle who lives in Oldbury was rushed to hospital a couple of days ago. They have diagnosed cancer in his lungs, liver and neck. They think they have a good chance of beating them but he also has a bad heart which makes the strain of Chemo and Radiation Therapy a bit of a worry. Mum wants to fly over and be there for him but then again my father might be under treatment at the same time.

All of this is a bit depressing in the run up to Christmas.

Last week put my Mother In Law into permanent Aged Care. She can't understand why she is not allowed to live in her home of the last 50 years. She can't look after herself and my wife was over at her house for many hours each day.

So there is not much "Ho Ho Ho" in the Dodd house at the moment.

Perhaps I can win the $35 million dollar lottery next week....

Im sorry to read this Mark and I do know how you feel.
My son in law with testicular cancer.
My Mum and Aunty both were dagnosed with lung cancer at the same time and operations a week apart and my uncle (my auntys husband) a year later with lung cancer too
They are all doing ok, still on regular checks and I thank my lucky stars they are

Sadly though I lost 2 aunts and my Dad with cancer a few years ago too.

Terrible disease but they do seem to be improving things in treatment.
Thinking of you and all your family.
Jo :)

Sorry to hear your news Mark.
Luckily the doctors are getting better and better at treating cancers, so I'm hoping for the best for your family.
