I retired earlier on this year, going over retirement age and I"™ve just opened a letter from the local council office informing me they are building some apartments which will be ready in 2010 for people over the age of 55 to rent or purchase via shared ownership"¦. to encourage residents to enjoy a healthy and active retirement.
I reckon I"™m in pretty good health and active (more or less) thank you very much. Why should I want to give up my home and live in a community with people who could be years and years older than me. Now don"™t get me wrong, I"™ve got nothing against the really elderly, my in-laws are in their 80s and are wonderful, but I wouldn"™t like to spend my time in the immediate future living in the same block of apartments.
I know what the councils over the country are trying to do as it"™s been in the news lately. They are attempting to get older people out of their homes, bung them in apartments, so that their houses can be sold to younger people. WHY DON"™T THEY BUILD SOME COUNCIL HOUSES. Okay, we all know why, because they haven"™t got the money.
Off me soap box now
