Walking clubs

I'm beginning to see more and more groups of people walking around wearing the walking boots and woolie socks and poles in their hands!!
Do you see these people in England?

yep there a canny size walking club in the spenny area some got camera too :shock:

Yes Wolvie has a big Walking pole only the one need 2 really
very useful! Works the arms too!

Yeh, we do have these people over here. The proper name for it is Nordic Walking. As NL says it works the arms as well as the legs. Just because a lot of us live in the Black Country, it doesn't mean we're still in the Dark Ages you know. :wink:

The Blck Country people live in the dark ages? That's something i've never ever had in my head but now you mention it... :lol:

I couldn't think of the name for it i was thinking it was Alpine Walking. What i'm trying to say is here in Holland they always seem to be a certain type of person and really to be honest i've never saw such a load of nerds in my life!! :roll:

But hey that's my opinion for what it's worth!!

My husband often goes out with his friends walking dressed just like that. My 16 year old does too when she gets a chance.

We get lots of them around here, not only is there a local group who meet up regularly to walk the local paths and see the sights, sometimes with a theme, guided by someone from the local history society, but there's a business based in the village that provides publications and organises walking holidays.

It's quite funny sometimes; there are these very serious, fully equipped, walkers striding off into the middle distance, MrsSRD and I take off along the footpaths to a pub we like 4/5 miles away, her in her wheelchair and me in my ordinary day clothes and stout pair of shoes. Every so often we pass knots of these people, studying their maps and pointing with their sticks. We get to the pub, where the garden is full of them with half a pint of shandy and their sandwiches (the landlord won't let them eat their own food in the pub). We'll have lunch then I'll walk back home to pick up the car to collect MrsSRD as her wheelchair hasn't the oomph to do the return trip and leave her enjoying the bonhomie in the pub. It has been known for the occasional request for a lift back to the village from walkers who have found the walk out too far to repeat. :lol:

You mean skiers who've lost there skis and haven't noticed the snow melted about nine months ago?

They were a big craze her about 2 years ago, it was popular amongst the older generation, but most of them forgot to use the poles, you're supposed to swing your arms and walk reasonably fast to get a good workout.

You'll end up like Richard III if you only use one pole (assuming that he was, which he may not have been). Anyhow, you need two or none.

I hate those sticks. I used to go hiking here with a walking group and those sticks ruin it! There you are tramping along in the peaceful outdoors, and all you hear is clatter clatter clatter as sticks hit the rocks. :evil:
