I have a Duval / Devall / Devalve family connected to my Plants: Richard Devalve c. 13 March 1791 Brierley Hill, died 28 Aug 1861 married Susan Plant (c. 17 Aug. 1792 Brierley Hill, d. 28 Oct. 1859 Birkenhead), dau. of George Plant and Zipporah Pearson, on 21 Oct. 1816 at Old Swinford. I wonder if there's a connection? The name is very probably French Huguenot refugees which might explain the tailoring connection, Huguenots were often weavers. I presume the original name was Duval or Du Val, "from the valley".
