Hi all, looking for information on a Henry Benton b: abt 1840....
I have a birth certificate for James Wootton (my gt gt grandfather) b: 25th Sept 1860 Digbeth, Walsall... mother Mary Ann Wootton (I know she was born abt 1846 Leeds, Yorks).... father is a Henry Benton.
I know nothing of Henry.. I do know that Mary Ann went to live with her Uncle Job Wootton after James was born and that James was listed on the 1881 census as living with his grandfather Thomas Wootton although he is listed as Thomas's son.

No Mary Ann. Has she died, married, or just moved?
Hello dianel, thanks for looking into this for me... I Think that the Henry Benton you have found is indeed the correct one.. I'm not so sure of the Mary Ann Benton being formerly Mary Ann Wootton due to the age difference and place of birth; unless on census night they got her birth place wrong. I agree its strange that after 1871 she disappears; I know that her eldest son James was born out of wedlock so Charles and Jessy may have been too. I will have to apply for their birth certificates to confirm this. Their father may have also been Henry. Would be an idea to search for his marriage details and possible Mary Ann's death info just to tie things in.
