I have some info regarding Elisha Holt(Gill).
Elisha died in a mining accident in Sharlston ,Yorkshire in 1899,and is buried in Sharlston cemetery.
His daughter Ada is already on BCC.
I am in touch with Gillian the Great-Great Grand-daughter of Elisha And Sarah Elizabeth,and she has been looking for a birth for Elisha for ages.
I have sent for a copy of thebirth, cert for Elisha W Gill and will let you know the outcome.
Sarah Elizabeth Homer Tromans , married Elisha William Holt on 25th.Dec 1881 at Parish church of Dudley.
Her father was -David Tromans
His father was Oliver Holt(dead).
Witnesses were-Thomas Grainger and Alice Shaw.
The Tromans family lived in Corngreaves Road ,Cradley Heath.
IHave a copy of this marriage certificate.
I haven"t been able to find any trace of a Oliver Holt .

Elisha Holt is my Great Great Grandfather and his parentage has had me stumped for quiet a while now. Therefore anyone who can make any progress on this will have my heartfelt thanks.
What I can say is that Elisha died on the 12th August 1899 at Sharlston Pit, Wakefield, West Yorkshire due to a roof fall underground. I have verified this from his gravestone and through an archived newspaper article from the Wakefield Express.

I further details of Elisha's children etc. If the details would be useful just let me know.

So confusing this family. I was going to work through the rest of Emma Skeldings children to try and find how they all fit in!
At the moment I think we have two Mary Ann Gill on BCC and I think they are the same person. 1820 and 1824.

Born-30th.April 1861.
Name -Elisha William
No fathers name is given.
Mother -Emma Gill
X mark of Emma Gill, mother ,of Simms Lane, Netherton,Dudley
Registered 10th. June 1861.

So Elisha is Mary ann Gills daughter, Emma Skeldings son!
That needs to be changed on BCC, I will do it for you if you would rather Pat?

Doesnt get any easier does it but plodding on as we should to get it best we can :grin:

So may be Oliver Holt named as Father on his marriage record is just a made up name?
