Just lost my job.....

Post by MarkCDodd »

Terminated because they believe my medical condition prevents me from doing my job.

They are in for a shock when the disability Board rings them and demands they offer me a position I can do.

Idiots.

Oh Marky, sorry to hear your news. Pity you're not over here then you could do some lookups.

We were at the Black Country Living Museum last week and was talking to the chappie in the printing shop they have there. We were asking him how long he'd been doing the volunteer work. It turned out he had not long retired as a firefighter and he was saying that when you reach 50yrs old or have served in the service for 30yrs, whichever comes first, they kick you out. He's such a lovely man and was really passionate about being a firefighter.

They had the Black Country Museum on the latest episode of Who Do You think You Are.

They even had a bit of product placement for The Black Country Bugle.

It not just my position, it is my career.

I have specialised in a particular area of IT over the last ten years and although positions pay well, they are far a few between.

Looking a the job sites today there are three I could walk into but they are all interstate.

There are plenty in England and I am seriously thinking of coming over to work for a while.

I am sure I could afford to rent when the going rate on contract is £70 to £90 an hour.

I really enjoyed that one with Larry Lamb. Thought it was the best one so far.

In Chinese, the character for 'crisis' contains the character for 'opportunity'. I hope this is true for you, Mark.

Does it contain the character for Jutifiable Homicide?

Are they using your difficulties as an excuse to downsize or are they replacing you? It might make a difference if you do sue them for wrongful dismissal. You might get enough to pay for the airfare over here.

They are not downsizing. They are replacing.

It will cos tme about $15,000 to challenge them and even if I win I am not guaranteed to get costs.

That's the rotten thing about these situations. It's so costly to use the legal system. Would one of those 'no win, no cost' legal firms take it on, Mark? Sounds like you have a good case.

The "No Cost" is their fees. You are still out of pocket for court fees and maybe the other sides costs.
