*Arc tbc* ------Donald Lane b. 13 April 1921

Post by Boxy »

My late father was the illegitimate son of Phyllis Rose Lane. He was born when she was just 17. I have his birth cert but there is no info about the father. There are no surviving family members that I know of who may be able to help and it is frustrating to have hit the wall at such an early stage.

My late mum didn't know anything other than there had been "talk" of a man by the name of "Gwilt". All very mysterious but where do I go from here?

Hi Boxy welcome to the forum

To be honest if there is nothing on the birth certificate as regards a father and nothing on his marriage cert as regards a father I don't know.

I have this with my grandma and I am waiting to look at the northumberland 1911 census and see who is living round abouts.

Presume Gwilt is the surname so you could maybe check electoral registers in the area.

Births Jun 1921
Lane Donald Lane Upton 6c 310

so Worcs area
:?

does anyone know up to what year we can view the electoral registers?
or can we view them up to last years?

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

Thanks Pete. No, my mother was born in Sussex. My Dad was born near Longdon and his birth registered at Upton. His mother - my paternal grandmother - didn't marry the father - my dad's father- hence the problem. Even if I find some local "Gwilts" I'm no further forward unless I can find some documented coneection. I'll post any progress.......
